On behalf of officers and men, I would like to extend hearty welcome. YUUGIRI was commissioned in 1989, as a 3rd ship of ASAGIRI class multipurpose Destroyer. She has capabilities of quick reaction for Anti-Air, Anti-Surface and Anti-Submarine warfare with utilizing Digital Computer Systems. The mission of JAPAN MARITIME SELF DEFENCE FORCE is maritime defence and protecting sea lane around JAPAN, for the attainment of our mission, we are conducting hard training day and night. INFORMATION

This ship is the third YUUGIRI named after the first ship of the Imperial Navy. The first YUUGIRI was built in England. After brought to Japan on 25 Mar 1899, she was joined the famous "the battle of tsushima and yellow sea". The second YUUGIRI was commissioned on 3 Dec 1930 as a firs-gradedestroyer and joined W.W.II. JDS YUUGIRI has made her debut as the third YUUGIRI after 46 years and commissioned with the most sophisticated and latest equipment fitted and also has helicopter on board to defend peace and independence for our nation.
